About C4

Mission Statement:

The Crescent City Childcare Collective is a radical childcare collective dedicated to providing competent and politicized childcare. We seek to destroy the oppressive institutions of capitalism, racism, and hetero-patriarchy. We do this by creating alternative structures to those of commodified or invisible carework, and by making space for children and families in our public lives and political works.

Points of Unity:
1) We are anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian, and anti-oppressions
2) We prioritize working with organizations representing/run by those most effected by issues impacting people in New Orleans, such as the prison industrial complex, police violence, gentrification, racism, violence against sex workers, and so on.
3) We aim to move beyond organizing models that merely provide services or acts of charity, and seek to build community and/or solidarity with families involved in political struggles.
4) We prioritize carework as the most valuable kind of work because of how it has historically been gendered and racialized. Learning how to better care for one another under systems that commodify lives, is one of the most important things we can do. Carework is underpaid, disrespected, and often invisible.
5) Families and children should be visible in their communities and everyone should feel collective responsibility for their needs. Hence, children should be engaged in the political work of the communities they are situated within. This means learning from children, from their families, and from each other.

If you’d like to volunteer your time, if your organization would like help with childcare, or if you have any questions or concerns, please email us at ccccollective@gmail.com.
